Dry Skin
In the U.S., over 100 million people suffer from dry skin.
We’ve all had our moments of dealing with dry hands, scaly elbows, cracking feet, dry face and even legs. Often we view dry skin as just a minor nuisance and ignore it. But for many people, dry skin can be more than just an uncomfortable irritant.
Dry skin can feel tight or painful. It can take on a dull red or flaky look and be compounded by itchiness. Statistically in the U.S., over 100 million people suffer from dry skin and for some it is much more than just an annoyance. Atopic dermatitis is another name for eczema. Which can sometimes be the result of not treating dry skin. Eczema is a skin condition common amongst young children that causes dry scaly patches that appear on the skin. Other conditions such as psoriasis and type 2 diabetes can also cause skin to dry out. If left untreated, dry skin can lead to dermatitis, an inflammation of the skin.
The skin is our largest organ and it’s our first line of defense against infection. Skin that become overly dry can crack which then can allow bacteria to get into the body. Sometimes dry itchy skin can often keep people awake at night. Itching is one of the most common symptoms of dry skin. Continuously scratching the uncomfortable itch may lead to skin thickening and darkening of the skin. That could be the first step to a serious problem. Taking care of your skin is much more than just a cosmetic concern. Dry skin not only affects the way you look, it can affect you mentally and physically.
Our skin contains a layer of natural lipids, or fats. This layer aids in retaining moisture and leaving the skin soft. What causes the skin to dry out is this fatty layer being stripped away. The cause is most often environmental or something you are doing such as prolonged exposure to dry air or using a harsh soap. The best way to take care of the dry, itching irritation would be to find a moisturizer that suits your needs and doesn’t clog your pores, while giving your skin the hydration it craves. Remember, avoid hot water by using tepid water instead, pat skin dry, and try not to rub. While the skin is still damp apply your body lotion immediately, and avoid those with artificial color and fragrance with lotions. Those with aloe vera as an ingredient will help provide your skin with the nutrition and moisture its craving, giving you and your skin a sense of relief. You can also apply Pure Prime Emu Oil to the skin and allow it some time to soak in. Emu oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores, and it absorbs deeply into your skin providing moisture to more than just the surface.
