Emu Therapy is happy to offer a high-quality Fascia Massage Gun to our customers. Massage guns have gained much popularity in recent years as tools to achieve a deep tissue massage outside of a masseuse's establishment, whether at home or away from home. While the skills of an expert masseuse are hard to replace, our Fascia Massage Gun is a simple, portable way to massage sore muscles, stiff joints, and trigger points with no appointment needed!

The Emu Therapy Fascia Massage Gun has five different massage heads that can be used for different levels and types of massage.

FOAM BALL

The foam ball is designed for large muscle groups, such as your arms, legs, and back. The ball is compacted as it presses into the muscle, making it a comfortable, gentle massage.

FLAT HEAD

The flat head is intended for general use, so you can apply this anywhere on your body you want to use it. It is made of hard plastic, and there are some slightly raised rounded areas. This head essentially presses into the flesh with a bit more force than the foam ball because the hard plastic does not compress itself when used.

U-SHAPED HEAD

The U-shaped head is designed for use on the spine and other areas where a bone or tendon is in the middle of what you need to massage. The tips will press into the skin and muscles on either side of the object. This can work up and down the spine, as well as the shoulders and collarbone. As the massager is applied to the area, the tips will extend further into the tissue, providing pressure more deeply than the flat head.

ROUNDED HEAD

The rounded head follows the principle of the U-shaped head, but with one tip for accurate control over where the pressure is applied. This head will go deeper into the body than the flat head, and works well on specific points of pain or soreness. If you find a particular knot or tense spot, the rounded head may be just the tool to work it out.

POINTED HEAD

The pointed head takes the idea of the rounded head one step further. With its smaller tip, pressure is even more exactly applied. You can use this massage head to get at very specific areas that may be quite bony as well, such as your hands or feet. By directing the pressure to a particular point, you can avoid the discomfort of massaging into bone, and you can get between the small bones that make up these and other parts of the body.

POWER ON/OFF

Turn on the massager using the red power button on the back of the gun. Simply press and hold the button until the head begins to move. Press and hold the power button again for a second or so to turn the massage gun off.

CHARGING

The Fascia Massage Gun comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that should last up to two hours of continual use. For most people, this will be more than enough time to spend in one session. A charging cord is also included that will plug into a standard USB-A port on a computer, built into a chair or furniture, or a charging block, such as what is widely used for cell phones and other electronics (no charging block is included with this massage gun). The end of the cord that plugs into the massage gun is a standard USB-C adapter, which is gaining popularity and is becoming more widely available. The Fascia Massage Gun will operate while plugged in, but the length of the cord may limit where you are able to use it. When not in use, charging for an hour or two should return the battery to full power. You can see how much of the battery is left by looking at the LCD screen on the back of the gun.

SPEED SETTINGS

There are 30 speed settings for the Emu Therapy Fascia Massage Gun. These are displayed on the LCD screen at the back of the gun as 01 (the lowest setting) through 30 (the fastest speed). Speed is adjusted up or down using the + / - buttons on the left and right of the power button. Once you reach the top or bottom speed, continuing to press the + / - button will not make any change until you adjust the speed in the opposite direction.

MASSAGE MODES - PERCUSSION PATTERNS

When the massage gun is on, pressing the power button and releasing it instantly will change the massage mode. There are four options to choose from, each with a unique pattern of percussion:

  • P0 - Constant movement
  • P1 - Long times of movement with short pauses between them
  • P2 - Medium-length times of movement with short pauses between them
  • P3 - Short times of movement with nearly equal pauses between them

Choose the pattern that feels best to you, which may change depending on the area or body part being targeted, the details of why you are sore, or personal preference.

When muscles are sore or strained, apply Super Blue Stuff OTC, Super White Stuff OTC, and/or other Emu Therapy pain relief products to the area. Allow a few minutes for the product to be absorbed, then turn on the Fascia Massage Gun and move it along the areas treated. Test with only light pressure applied and on a low speed setting, then increase the force exerted and/or massager speed based on your preference. Bony areas without bulky muscle tissue such as shins, joints, hands and feet may be more sensitive to the massage gun, especially with the massage heads that are made of hard plastic. Adjust the head used and pressure applied for your desired comfort level. If needed, cover the area with more Emu Therapy pain relief products after using the massage gun, as well.

Select the appropriate massage head and insert it into the front of the massage gun.

FOAM BALL The foam ball is designed for large muscle groups, such as your arms, legs, and back. The ball is compacted as it presses into the muscle, making it a comfortable, gentle massage. FLAT HEAD The flat head is intended for general use, so you can apply this anywhere on  your body you want to use it. It is made of hard plastic (PVC), and there are some slightly raised rounded areas. This head essentially presses into the flesh with a bit more force than the foam ball because the hard plastic does not compress itself when used. U-SHAPED HEAD The U-shaped head is designed for use on the spine and other bony areas. The tips will press into the skin and muscles on either side of a bone. This can work up and down the spine, as well as the shoulders and collarbone. As the massager is applied to the area, the tips will extend further into the tissue, providing pressure more deeply than the flat head. ROUNDED HEAD The rounded head follows the principle of the U-shaped head, but with one tip for accurate control over where the pressure is applied. This head will go deeper into the body than the flat head, and works well on specific points of pain or soreness. If you find a particular knot or tense spot, the rounded head may be just the tool to work it out. POINTED HEAD The pointed head takes the idea of the rounded head one step further.

Turn on the massager using the red power button. Simply press and hold the button until the head begins to move. It is best to turn the gun on before it is touching your body so that you can make adjustments to the settings and then begin your massage. Pressing and immediately releasing the power button again will change the massage mode. There are four options to choose from:

      • P0 - Constant movement
      • P1 - Long times of movement with short pauses between them
      • P2 - Medium-length times of movement with short pauses between them
      • P3 - Short times of movement with nearly equal pauses between them

Choose the pattern that feels best to you. This may change depending on the area being targeted, the circumstances of your soreness, or simply personal preference at the time. Feel free to experiment and try each massage mode out; you may like them all!

You will need to select the speed of the Fascia Massage Gun in addition to the massage mode. It is best to start with a low speed setting to avoid over-exerting the force of the massager. The speed is easily adjusted with the + / - buttons on the back of the gun. There are 30 speed settings, so you can move through them and find the speed that is right for you. As with the massage modes, your preferred speed may change with the circumstances. Certain parts of the body may respond better to faster speeds whereas others may be more comfortable with lower speeds. Different massage heads may work better for you with higher or lower speeds, as well. Change settings around and find what you like, but don't feel limited to one setting!

For most areas of the body, you can use one hand to aim the Fascia Massage Gun at the target part of the body and move it evenly along the area. Speed of movement is less important than making sure that the body is fully massaged by the percussion of the massage gun. Tilt or adjust the gun to impact all of the muscles/areas needed from the appropriate angles. With the pistol design, you may be able to massage places that would otherwise seem awkward to address on your own, such as the back. Consider asking a family member or friend to help you with areas that are still difficult to reach or massage effectively.

It is important to relax the muscles being impacted by the massage gun. Flexed muscles will resist the Emu Therapy Fascia Massage Gun, or any massage, and may even result in more injury or pain. Flexed muscles are different from tense muscles, which may be in that state because of overuse, stress, or injury; flexed muscles are being actively tightened by the nervous system. If using the gun is causing pain or anxiety, adjust your approach, change the massage head, or reduce the pressure applied so that you feel relaxed and can get the full benefit of this tool.

If you find an area of your body that is particularly tight or sore, try holding the Fascia Massage Gun in that location with continuous pressure for a few minutes, or until you feel the tension release. You may want to move the muscle or joint around in a twisting, flexing and relaxing, or rippling movement (such as raising and lowering the fingers in a wave while applying pressure to the forearm). The percussion of the massage gun may be affecting your muscle, fascia, or other tissue in a way that will allow your body to reset or respond to that activity. The human body is an amazing thing which can and will react to the appropriate situation!

HOW BIG IS THE FASCIA MASSAGE GUN? Emu Therapy's Fascia Massage Gun measures 6.5 inches from back to front, 2.0 inches side to side, and is 7.0 inches tall. The handle is 1.8 inches in diameter and 4.75 inches long. The massage gun itself weighs just under two pounds. HOW BIG ARE THE MASSAGE HEADS? The massage heads for Emu Therapy's Fascia Massage Gun are fully interchangeable, but each have their own unique measurements at the massage tip end.

        • The foam ball is a sphere 2 inches in diameter
        • The flat head is a circle 1.31 inches in diameter and 0.375 inches thick
        • The U-shaped head is 2.125 inches wide and 1.5 inches from the base of the fork to its tips.
        • The rounded head measures 1 inch in diameter at the tip
        • The pointed head is 0.75 inches wide at its largest and narrows to 0.25 inches wide at the tip
HOW LOUD IS THE MASSAGE GUN WHEN IT'S RUNNING? Emu Therapy's Fascia Massage Gun operates at around 40 decibels (dB). This is roughly equal to the volume of a library or bird calls, and is at the lower limit of general urban background noise. HOW DEEP DO THE MASSAGE HEADS PRESS INTO MY BODY? A common measurement for massage guns is how deep it presses the massage heads into the body when used, also called amplitude. Emu Therapy's Fascia Massage Gun operates with a range of 12mm to 16mm, depending on the settings used. HOW FAST DO THE MASSAGE HEADS MOVE? Another common statistic for massage guns is how many times the massage head will hit the body. This is measured in RPMs, or revolutions per minute, referring to the motor rotations that cause the massage heads to move in and out. The Emu Therapy Fascia Massage Gun has 30 different speeds that vary between 1,200 RPMs at the lowest setting up to 3,200 RPMs at the highest level. HOW LONG IS THE CORD THAT COMES WITH THE MASSAGER? The cord provided with the Fascia Massage Gun is 19.5 inches long (just over a foot and a half). This is long enough to plug in and set down to charge, though using the gun while charging could be awkward. The cord is a standard USB-A plug on one end and a standard USB-C plug on the other end. If you would like a longer charging cord so that you can use the Fascia Massage Gun while it is plugged in, you can find them at various electronics or general merchandise stores or web sites. DOES A CHARGING BLOCK COME WITH THE MASSAGER? No, there is not a charging block included with the massage gun. If you have a charging block used for a cell phone or other electronics, it most likely has a USB-A port to plug the cord into, and that can be used for this massager, as well. Additionally, the cord will plug into any standard USB-A port, such as in a computer, included in some chairs, tables, or other furniture, or some power outlets and power strips. DOES A BATTERY COME WITH THE MASSAGER? Yes! A rechargeable lithium-ion battery is included in the massager purchased. It cannot easily be removed or replaced, but it should last for several years, depending on the conditions and frequency of use. HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERY LAST WHEN USING THE MASSAGER? The length of time the battery will last depends on several factors, such as how close to fully charged it is when use begins. With a fully charged battery, it is reasonable to expect Emu Therapy's Fascia Massage Gun to last for around two hours of continuous use, which is a lot! Many users will want to use the massager in a stop-and-go fashion, moving from one part of the body to another with pauses in between to move the body part, check for soreness, possibly massage by squeezing with the hands, etc. We also recommend applying products such as Super Blue Stuff OTC, Pure Prime Emu Oil, or other Emu Therapy pain relief creams if massaging is not relieving pain quickly or simply.   WHAT IS FASCIA AND FASCIA RESTRICTION? As a very simplified explanation, fascia (pronounced faa-shuh) is a fibrous tissue that wraps all the internal parts of the body: bones, muscles, joints, and organs. Fascia is partly what holds our bodies together and keeps things in place. However, sometimes, fascia will react to prolonged or severe pressure that pushes things out of place. After a while fascia will "remember" this new position and treat it as normal, keeping the body in that position rather than its natural state. This adjusted position is sometimes called fascia restriction. To reset the body to its natural state, the fascia must be held under pressure while the body goes back into place, and then the fascia can relearn to hold the natural position rather than the adjusted one.
